OpenAI released the GPT-5.2 model, designed for developers and professional use cases. This new version, which the company describes as its most advanced model to date, is offered in three different variations customized by purpose of use (Instant, Thinking, and Pro).

• Instant: Provides low latency and speed optimization for routine queries such as information search, text writing, and translation.
• Thinking: Stands out in complex, structured tasks such as coding, long document analysis, mathematical problems, and planning.
• Pro: Positioned as the top-tier model targeting maximum accuracy and reliability for solving difficult problems.

Performance Criteria and Competition

The GPT-5.2 series has been made more capable than previous models in creating spreadsheets, preparing presentations, image perception, and managing multi-step projects. It is stated that the Thinking model in particular shows fewer hallucinations than previous versions and handles long context better.

On the benchmark side, GPT-5.2 competes directly with Google’s Gemini 3 model. According to data shared by OpenAI, GPT-5.2 Thinking outperforms Gemini 3 and Anthropic Claude Opus 4.5 in the large majority of reasoning tests. However, in independent LMArena coding benchmarks, Claude Opus-4.5 appears to maintain its lead.

The new models were made available to developers via the API; they were also gradually opened for access to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise users.
