OpenAI Is Removing GPT-4o and GPT-5 Models

Important Change in OpenAI Models

OpenAI announced that it will end support for some popular versions by updating model life cycles in its AI infrastructure. According to the company’s official statement, certain models open to developers’ and end users’ access are being retired as of Friday, February 13.

Although it is a standard process in the technology world for outdated models to give way to newer ones, it is noteworthy that widely used models such as GPT-4o and GPT-5 are on this list. Developers who built their systems on these models must complete their migration processes by the stated date.

Models to Be Discontinued

According to the list shared by OpenAI, API and interface access for the following models will be shut down:

• GPT-4o
• GPT-5
• GPT-4.1
• GPT-4.1 mini
• o4-mini

This change is considered part of OpenAI’s strategy to direct its resources toward newer architectures and optimized models.
